What we are legally required to retain
After your account is deleted, we retain a minimal anonymised tombstone record for each matter you opened. This record contains no personal data: it consists only of an internal matter ID, the practice area (e.g., "consumer dispute"), the date opened, and the date closed or deleted.
This retention is required under:
- Advocates Act, 1961 and Bar Council of India Rules: professional records in matters where an advocate was engaged must be preservable for the standard limitation period.
- Limitation Act, 1963 (Section 3 read with Schedule 1): civil claims arising from professional services can be raised for up to 3 years; we retain tombstones for 7 years as a prudential buffer.
Your name, phone number, matter content, documents and AI queries are not part of this tombstone record. They are deleted without exception.
